02 — COMMUNITY

A PLACE WITH WEIGHT.

Iyuku belongs to the wider Uzairue landscape of Etsako West, Edo State — a place where settlement, agriculture, roads and the geological character of the land meet.

Its identity is not only found in buildings or boundaries. It is written into the earth itself: exposed rock, weathered surfaces, lateritic soil, cultivated land and the paths connecting one part of the community to another.

This page is therefore not designed as a conventional village directory. It is a visual record of place — how Iyuku looks, feels, moves and belongs within Etsako.

THE STONE OF IYUKU

Iyuku is especially notable for its exposed granite formations and boulder landscapes. Geological studies describe granite and sandstone formations within the area, with massive ridges and fragmented boulders forming part of its physical character.

The stone is more than scenery. It has influenced quarrying, construction, employment and the physical relationship between the community and its land.

BEYOND THE ROCK

Iyuku should never be reduced to its quarry landscape.

Around the stone are homes, cultivated spaces, vegetation, seasonal water, pathways and the everyday work of families. The community exists within a larger living landscape.

The future of Iyuku therefore belongs to both development and stewardship — building stronger infrastructure while protecting the land that gives the community its character.
